We all want to have a vegetable garden in our yard. Every house should be self sufficient to grow vegetables in a small space in our house. Many diseases are caused because of pesticides that we spray on the plants. It is a well known fact that bio manure is one of the best things for growing vegetables. It adds nutrients and organic matter to the soil. We will discuss some tips to manure a vegetable garden.
There are few things to consider when cultivating vegetables. First the soil that the vegetables are grown in could already contain all nutrients that vegetables require. That makes it very important to give vegetables the adequate nutrients in the form of manure, animal manure being the best for vegetables. Beware that animal manure contains bacteria such as e-coli and roundworms and tapeworms. Those tiny organisms could cause diseases in humans and they are passed to the humans through direct contact with manure.
It is quite simple to use this manure for growing vegetables by taking certain precautions. The following are some of the most effective ways on how to manure a vegetable garden.
No Fresh Manure
It is not necessary to use fresh manure on vegetables. Fresh manure is highly saturated with nitrogen and ammonia which causes root burns and could also inhibit seed germination. If you still want to use fresh manure, the safest way is to use it about 120 days before harvesting vegetables.
Composite Manure
The next method is to use composite manure. This will reduce risk of contaminating the cultivated fruits and vegetables. Commercially produced manure will be found in the garden center and can be checked if it is 100% pathogen free.
Types of Manures to Use
It is very important to know which animal manure should be used for vegetables. Cat, dog and especially pig’s manure should be completed avoided. And these should be completely avoided in composite pile as well. Reason being; parasites in these types on manure can live longer and infect people. Cow and chicken manure are best for your garden.
Manure Consistency
The other ways on how to manure a vegetable garden is to ensure the content of the manure. It should consist of three basic elements e.g. nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Nitrogen is used in building the living tissue, potassium helps plants in adapting the sugars and phosphorus helps in moving the energy throughout the plant.
