India Pakistan Cricket Rivalry

The Pakistan-India cricket rivalry is one of the most intense sports rivalries in the world. According to a TV rating firms Pakistan India cricket match attract about 3 hundred million TV viewers, the world cup semi final between the two teams attracted about 150 million TV viewers, one of the largest TV event of the year.

First ever match between Pakistan and India was played at Delhi on 16th October 1952. It was 4 day test match, India required just three days to beat Pakistan by an innings and 70 runs. India won the series by 2-1. The following 10 test match series were drawn. After 26 years Pakistan won the series against India in 1978-79.

India has always beaten Pakistan in World Cup matches. Pakistan leads India in the number of wins in Test matches 12–9 and ODIs 72–50.While India leads Pakistan in T20s 5-1.

The most interesting match of all times was the final of Austral Cup 1986 when Pakistani batsman (Javed miandad) hit six to the Indian bowler (Cheetan Sharma) on the last ball of match and won the title for Pakistan team. Several people had died because of shock of victory and defeat during very last over of the match.

Pakistan have the good overall record against India in One Day Internationals, Pakistan have lost all of five matches when the two teams have met in the World Cup, the most prestigious ODI tournament. India’s first victory over Pakistan in a World Cup came in the Round Robin Stage in 1992, a tournament which Pakistan won.
