Visiting dentist at least once a year is important for oral health, but have you ever thought of brushing teeth with eggshell toothpaste…? Well probably not and we did not blame you. It is kinda weird thing, why would we want to use egg shells when there are a lot of commercial toothpastes available that claim to transform teeth into perfect pearly whites? That is because eggshell contain perfect amount of the ideal substance in order to heal cavities which regular toothpaste simply cannot and the huge amount of calcium and 27 other minerals. So don’t throw eggshells, thinking they are useless!
Here is a story of health enthusiast Anetta
“Anetta had sensitive teeth and went to through a phase of getting a lot of cavities. She tried natural fluoride free toothpastes and other commercial brands for sensitive teeth and even baking soda. However, none of that stuff stopped getting cavities. She began researching more and more information about tooth re-mineralization and found that through this process, specialized cells in the center of the tooth are able to regenerate dentin, the layer of tooth just under the enamel, and the enamel can then properly re-mineralize from the outside. She found out that there is even a special diet for that. But with the family of fussy eaters around and lack of time and money, she realized that kind of diet was not going to work for her. Thanks to the recipe for re-mineralizing toothpastes at home using eggshells.”
Science behind eggshell toothpaste
The study first began with a group of medics and biologists, studying health properties of eggshells. Over ten years of research have shown that eggshells are perfect source of bio-available calcium. The whole revelation about eggshells actually backed up by a dental school in Philippines, where study took place, comparing various commercial toothpaste brands along with their own compounded toothpastes from eggshells. During the research they have discovered that over time, the teeth cleaned with the eggshell toothpaste had less plaque buildup and stronger enamel. This is due to the fact that eggshells have calcium and other trace minerals which are essential for healthy enamel, hence preventing cavities.
Amazingly eggshells are not just great for our teeth; research has shown us the accelerated healing when eggshells were used for treating orthopedic diseases as congenital dislocation of a hip. Eggshells are beneficial for children with the formation of their bone tissue, which requires calcium. Some people even add shells to baby food which can help prevent rickets and anemia, which normally occurs along with rickets.
How to consume eggshells
To get the maximum nutrition from eggshells, it is best to use organic and free range eggs. You simply have to boil eggs until it hardens the shell off. Allow the shells to dry naturally. After that grind them down into a fine powder and add them to your food or you can add them into your daily smoothies.
Homemade eggshell toothpaste
The advantage of this toothpaste is that it contains natural ingredients, it is cheap and effective. It also allows you to avoid commercial toothpastes that may cause cancer or embed plastic in your gums. You may also have heard that baking soda is abrasive, and eggshells may be the same. However, compared to commercial toothpastes, baking soda and eggshells are less abrasive, and therefore are healthier for your teeth. You can use baking soda as a powerful kitchen medicine. A combination of baking soda with lemon has being researched to treat cancer.
