- White Head: Remain under the skin and are very small. This happens when oil and skin cells prevent a clogged hair follicle from opening.
- Black Heads: clearly visible, they are black and appear on the surface of the skin. They are filled with excess oil and dead skin cells.
- Cyst: clearly visible on the surface of the skin. They are painful, and are filled with pus.
- Papules: visible on the surface of the skin. They are small bumps, usually pink. This type of pimple may be sensitive to the touch. Picking or squeezing can make the inflammation worse and may lead to scarring.
- Pustules: clearly visible on the surface of the skin. They are red at their base and have pus on the top. The bump is typically filled with white or yellow pus. Avoid picking or squeezing pustules. Picking can cause scars or dark spots to develop on the skin.
