Most of us of would have a bottle of Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) in their pantry. It is a tasty addition to homemade pickles, salad dressings and marinades. Many of its supposed benefits are unproven but experts think that adding a little amount of this may have some health benefits
ACV Weight Loss
A study test was conducted in Japan, 175 obese but healthy people took either vinegar or water daily for 12 weeks and similar diet. At the end of study those who used vinegar had lost slightly more weight. On average the group who used vinegar lost 1-2 pounds over a 3 months period. They gained their weight back after the study was over.
So the conclusion of above study was if you want to lose weight, you need to exercise daily and practice your portion control.
ACV and Digestion
If you take this vinegar with a starchy meal then the starches you do not digest will feed the good bacteria in your guts. Doctors recommend to use it unfiltered i.e. the cloudy thing where you can see a blob in a bottle. That blob is full of probiotics and other beneficial bacteria. This vinegar can support immune functions and for some people it can even help with constipation.
ACV and Blood sugar
While apple cider vinegar probably would not make you skinny, but it does help with diabetes and blood sugar control. Carol Johnston, PhD, directs Arizona State University’s nutrition program. She has been studying apple cider vinegar for more than 10 years and believes its effects on blood sugar are similar to certain medications.
“Apple cider vinegar’s anti-glycemic effect is very well documented,” Johnston says.
She explains that the vinegar blocks some of the digestion of starch. “It does not block the starch 100%, but it definitely prevents at least some of that starch from being digested and raising your blood sugar,” Johnston says.
Tips on taking ACV
